Dublin Senior C Football Champions 2019

On Friday the 17th of May St. Mac Dara’s C.C played against St. Colmcille’s C.S in the Dublin senior boys football C final in O’Toole park. It was a shaky start for St. Mas Dara’s, but with Alan Connolly and Ciaran Hogan both scoring points from play and then Alan Connolly scoring from a placed ball on the ground, Mac Dara’s started to play fluid football. If it wasn’t for the strength of the full back line of Jack Delaney, Billy Hamilton and Sean Wynne, Colmcille’s could have really opened up a strong lead in the first half. A Colmcille’s free that dropped short caused a big problem for the Mac Dara’s defence, after a lot of attempts Colmcille’s finally put the ball in the back of the Mac Dara’s net, but it was Mac Dara’s who had the final say in the first half, with Alex Rafferty scoring a sweet right footed goal into the bottom left corner. When the half time whistle blew the score was St. Mac Dara’s 1-3 to St. Colmcille’s 1-4. Second half changes saw Michael O’Keefe move to midfield from center back  and Simon Murphy move to centre back from midfield, a tactical swap which give Mac Dara’s a big presence around the middle of the field, & Murphy done an excellent job at shutting down Colmcilles most dangerous player Lorcan Dunne.

Both teams came out fighting in the second half, Colmcille’s were scoring from both frees and from play, but it was St. Mac Dara’s who kicked on with Ciaran Hogan kicking three superb points and captain Alan Connolly excelled, kicking two placed balls and one from play. Colmcille’s could have pulled back a goal but a fantastic save from the mac Dara’s goalkeeper Cealan Clarke kept Mac Dara’s ahead. A long shot from Alex Rafferty fumbled by the Colmcille’s keeper came straight out to Pearse Hogan who put it in the back of the net to seal a one point win for St. Mac Dara’s. The final score line was St. Mac Dara’s C.C 2-9 to St. Colmcille’s C.S 1-11.
