Chaplaincy

Welcome to the Chaplaincy page of our website.

The role of the Chaplain is best described as being the faith presence in the school community.  As Chaplain I am available to students, staff and parents of our school. I work closely with school management, year heads, class tutors and classroom teachers to promote a positive school environment for the wellbeing of all.

The role of the Chaplain is varied and can involve teaching religious education to meeting students on an individual basis to organising liturgies to participating in activities that promote the wellbeing of the school community. The role of Chaplain allows the development of relationships of trust with students, staff and parents. The Chaplain responds to the spiritual and religious needs of the students and the whole school community, while respecting the religious and personal views of all.

The key duty of the chaplain is to provide pastoral care. All of us need some kind of non-judgemental and understanding support; someone to listen and offer comfort, someone to provide assurance and encouragement. Through my role as Chaplain I offer advice to students facing difficult decisions, support students who are bereaved and lend a listening ear when needed.

As school Chaplain in St. Mac Dara’s I provide an open door to those in our community who need support in a safe and confidential manner.
